Auburn Mayor Bill Ham, Opelika Mary Gary Fuller and the members of the USA Women’s National Handball Team invite you to join them for a celebration and fundraising event on Thursday, May 11, at 6 p.m. at the Marriott Hotel and Conference Center at Grand National. The event aims to raise money to send the Women’s National Team to the Pam American Championships in Argentina.

Ever seen a game of handball being played? Team Handball, or Olympic Handball, is essentially the combination of three sports: basketball, soccer and water polo. It’s fast, tough and fascinating to watch – though intimidating to play. The athletes who master this sport are impressive to say the least. Handball has been referred to as the second fastest game on Earth after ice hockey, and is the second largest sport in Europe.

So what? It’s here in Auburn. Since the summer of 2013, Auburn University has been home to the USA Team Handball Men’s and Women’s National Teams. Athletes from all over the country live, work, or go to school in Auburn to condition and practice year-round. Over the years, the teams have improved and now are reaching out to the community for both support and funding.

“The USA WNT played brilliantly in Puerto Rico and qualified for Pan Ams,” said Christian Latulippe, the USA WNT Head Coach. “We attracted a lot of attention. Now we have something big in front of us.”

If you are unable to attend but wish to make a donation, please send contributions to: USA Women’s Team Handball Residency Program, Olympic Training Site-Auburn School of Kinesiology, 301 Wire Road, Auburn, AL 36849.
