Maker Spotlight: The LocAL Market

The LocAL Market was created to showcase high-quality Alabama makers, giving them a platform to display and sell their handmade or homegrown products while connecting them with the Auburn-Opelika community.

This eclectic retail space houses work by numerous artists, artisans, and farmers from all over the state. Each piece of art in the store is unique, telling a story about the area or the maker.

The LocAL Market opened in 2017 and is owned and operated by the local artist, Lauren Duncan. From her beautiful paintings to her endless schedule of art classes hosted on-site, her ideas drive the store’s success. Duncan’s work and work ethic are only matched by the treasures found nestled in the shop.

Expect to find colorful pottery inspired by nature handmade by Amber Epting.
You might come across one of Betty Carroll’s paintings depicting a familiar local landscapes or animal.
Get inspired by Laura Murray’s sketches and drawings inspired by history and architecture.
Be fascinated by the wooden bowls and vases made by local craftsman Turner Porter.
Learn about Opelika’s local framer, Scott Moody, and his philanthropic endeavors through Chirpwood.

Stock up on sweet jams, pepper jellies, and pickled veggies locally grown and canned by Hornsby Farms.
Feel inspired by the calligraphy art created by Kate Gwin of Haint Blue Collective.
