12 New Things Since Last Football Season [2023 Edition]

 

As the new football season approaches, Auburn fans are excited to return to the Loveliest Village on the Plains. If you haven’t visited our spirited destination since last year, boy are you in for a treat! Check out this list of everything that’s changed since last football season - from pancakes to Publix, there’s always something new in Auburn-Opelika!

1. Staks

Staks is Auburn’s newest addition to the downtown food scene. Serving a full menu all day means you never miss out on signature pancake Staks, sweet French toast, or some good old-fashioned Southern biscuits and gravy. Staks is open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

2. Buc-ee’s

The iconic, Texas-originated gas station has made its way to Auburn. Buc-ee’s is known for its vast variety of snacks, drinks, barbecue, and pastries, as well as their clean bathrooms (we’re serious!) The building itself is over 53,470 square feet and there are 120 fueling stations outside. It’s impressive. 3. Tiger Town Sports

Tiger Town Sports features an 18-hole miniature golf course, three full-size sand volleyball courts, and a high-definition golf simulator. Tiger Town Sports also serves pizza and wings and has a full-size bar with indoor and outdoor seating. This new space is an entertainment destination that is fun for all ages!

4. Glamping at Chewacla State Park

Chewacla State Park has a new way to enjoy the outdoors! The glamping tents are decked out with a bed with fresh linens, heating and A/C unit (depending on the weather), electricity outlets, a Keurig, and a mini fridge. The glamping tents aim to foster a sense of comfort and luxury, while still enjoying the great outdoors. Learn more about Timberline Glamping here.

5. Vintage 2298

Vintage 2298 is a field-to-fork restaurant that combines an elegant dining experience with the comforts of Southern cooking. The dining room feels both rustic and modern with large windows and abundant natural light. At night, expect flickering candles on each table and a warm, intimate experience. By day, the restaurant is bright and sunny - ideal for brunch or business meetings during the week. Vintage 2298 is located at 2298 East University Drive in Auburn.

6. Session Cocktails

Session is known for their stiff drinks, fancy glassware, and funky atmosphere. The menu is a list of curated cocktails that combine top-quality liquor, house-made syrups, freshly squeezed juices, and garnishes to create a delectable classic cocktail. The inside features comfortable group seating in a low-lit, trendy atmosphere. Session Cocktails is located at 157 E Magnolia Avenue.

7. The Plains Taproom

The Plains Taproom is Auburn’s first self-pour establishment. Every tap has a touch screen with details about the beverage. The description, alcohol content, and price per ounce are all displayed once it is activated via RFID card. The Taproom features 40 taps that will serve a selection of craft beers, ciders, wine, wine cocktails, and Kombucha. Visit the Plains Taproom at 200 West Glenn Avenue.

8 & 9. Downtown Auburn Publix and Target

Another location of the well-known grocery store is now conveniently set in the heart of downtown Auburn at the Shops on Gay Street. Publix features a deli and sub station, bakery, pharmacy, and floral department. They offer delivery and curbside pickup for those on the go! Stop by the downtown Publix for all your grocery needs. A new Target also recently opened in downtown Auburn, at 129 N College Avenue. The store is a 19,200 square-feet space on the ground floor of the building. The top floors of the building will be apartments. The Target is sure to be a great addition to the downtown shopping scene!

10. Jack Brown's Beer & Burger Joint

Jack Brown's is another new dining spot in downtown Auburn. Their burgers are 100% Wagyu beef and are unique and crave-able. Their specials are a creative twist on an American classic. Their drink menu features cans, bottles, seasonal drinks, and special beers. Jack Browns is located at 160 N College Street.

11. Fairfield Inn & Suites Renovation

The Fairfield Inn & Suites Auburn Opelika has recently undergone a complete renovation. From a new lobby, to new fitness facilities, updated suites, a meeting space, and more, this newly renovated hotel is conveniently located in the heart of the Tiger Town shopping center, just a short drive from Auburn University. 12. Two Auburn Oaks at Toomer's Corner Can Now Be Rolled

Auburn University has announced that fans can now roll two of the famed Auburn Oaks at Toomer's Corner this fall. War Eagle! After years of Auburn University asking fans to hold off on rolling the two new trees that were planted six years ago, the decision has finally been made to allow the the new Oaks to be included in the long standing Auburn tradition.
