The Auburn University Bookstore will host Claire T. Feild, author of the memoir A Delta Vigil: Yazoo City, Mississippi in the 1950s, for a book signing in the store on Saturday, October 4th, 2014, from 1 P.M. until 3:30 P.M. Claire will be available to discuss the book and autograph copies during the event. ABOUT THE BOOK: In A Delta Vigil, Claire Feild's sensitive and observant essays capture the bittersweet memories of growing up in Yazoo City, Mississippi, during the 1950s and 60s. She depicts a way of life that seemed tranquil and destined to continue, but this was an illusion because fault lines in the social order were appearing and things were about to change. This book excels both as an appealing memoir and as an authentic representation of family life, race, religion, and the societal expectations placed on refined young women during those times. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Claire T. Feild was born and grew up in Yazoo City, Mississippi, the town where the hills meet the Mississippi Delta. She has been a children’s librarian; a high school English teacher; a newspaper feature writer; an editor and publisher for a national journal she created titled Beyond Doggerel; a writer for professional education journals a lecturer in English at Tuskegee University; a writing consultant for students in the College of Business at Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama; and a part-time instructor in English at Southern Union State Community College in Opelika, Alabama.
