About the Opelika Municipal Park

Rocky Brook Creek meanders through this beautiful city park making it a perfect picnic destination. The park contains both a shelter and a gazebo with picnic tables. Don’t miss the Rocky Brook Rocket, a vintage miniature train equipped to carry passengers around the park. It runs seasonally and is also available for private rental. Relocated to the park in 2007, the Salem-Shotwell Covered Bridge is one of five existing covered bridges in Alabama built before 1950. Originally built in 1900, the 43-foot bridge is a Town Lattice truss construction over a single span. It was destroyed by a fallen tree in 2005 at its original location near Salem. The bridge is maintained by the Opelika Kiwanis Club and the City of Opelika.
