Hoof on over to Auburn Equestrian

Many people hear equestrian and aren’t sure exactly what that means. Auburn’s equestrian meets are not only a ton of fun, they’re also free! Hoof on over to the mane event this weekend. Saturday, March 3, No. 2 Auburn will face off with No. 5 SMU. The meet starts at 11 a.m. CST, at the Auburn University Equestrian Center.

You might have to rein in your children because there is so much fun stuff for them do. Every equestrian meet features pony rides, cornhole, inflatables and (our personal favorite) paint the pony! Oh yeah, and there is an equestrian meet going on too. The horses are beautiful, and the riders are remarkable!

These ladies aren’t horsing around. Watch as they compete in the western side of the competition featuring horsemanship and reining. They’ll also compete in Equitation Over Fences and Equitation on the Flat. In over fences, the riders are judged not only on their ability to negotiate a course of jumps on their horses, but also on their style and position while they do it. On the flat, riders are tested at the walk, trot, and canter at the lower levels and at more difficult gaits.

While seating is available, you will not sit down much. Get off your high horse and watch the meet or catch a pony ride. On a pretty day, it’s the perfect combination of entertainment and activity for kids. Make some hay and head on over to the equestrian meet!
