Auburn/Opelika Marriott at Grand National

When Marriott International reviewed guest satisfaction surveys, financial records and overall property performance for its hotels in 2017, a local hotel rose to the top of the list. Of the 634 classic premium hotels in North America, six were named Hotel of the Year for 2017, including the Auburn/Opelika Marriott at Grand National. The honor was revealed last week by Marriott International. Other Marriott hotels honored along with the Auburn/Opelika Marriott included the Buffalo Marriott Harborcenter; Washington Dulles Marriott Suites; Milwaukee Marriott West; Louisville Marriott East; and the Sheraton McKinney Hotel in Texas.

The Marriott Hotel of the Year recognition comes just days before the Auburn/Opelika Marriott was named a Top Golf Resort by Golf Digest editors for the third consecutive year. The Golf Digest honor names the editors' top golf resort picks in the country. Both the Auburn/Opelika Marriott and Renaissance Ross Bridge Golf Resort & Spa in Hoover were recognized by the Golf Digest. The hotels are part of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail's Resort Collection. Examples of other resorts honored included the Pebble Beach Resort at Spanish Bay, The Broodmoor, Pinehurst and the Four Seasons Resort Maui.

"Our team of hospitality experts strives each day to delight our guests and it is a real honor to receive these accolades," said Kevin Cross, general manager of the Auburn/Opelika Marriott at Grand National. "With great facilities provided by our owners (the Retirement Systems of Alabama) and an exceptional staff, our hotel appeals to guests regionally, nationally and internationally," said Cross. "From renovated guest rooms and meeting space to world-class RTJ golf courses and resort pools, we offer our leisure and business guests great experiences. These experiences will continue to improve as we double our number of guest rooms and add a new spa," said Cross. The hotel rooms are scheduled to be finished in May and the spa in September.

Resort Status and Memberships

The Auburn/Opelika Marriott Hotel at Grand National will officially become a Marriott Resort later this fall, once the new spa is complete. The hotel currently offers pool and tennis memberships for area residents. Additionally, a spa and fitness membership will be offered later in the year.

The Marriott remains the area's only AAA Four Diamond hotel. For more information on the Auburn/Opelika Marriott, visit www.marriottatgrandnational.com or call 334.741.9292.
