The Tasty Taco Trail of Auburn-Opelika

Tried and true. We took it upon ourselves to name the best tacos in Auburn-Opelika, and we feel pretty good about our findings. In fact, even non-taco lovers (if there is such a thing) can appreciate some of these unique takes on this casual comfort food.

Tacorita’s Southern Fried Chicken Taco

You had me at fried chicken. This Americanized taco is fried to crispy perfection and served with corn pico and jalapeno ranch. So good it'll make you wanna slap your madre.

Taqueria La Plaza / Taqueria Durango’s Authentic Street Tacos

Owned and operated by the same family, these taco joints are the real deal. Incredibly authentic, you choose an exceptionally flavorful meat which is served with onions and fresh cilantro. Grab a lime and some house-made salsa verde from the salsa bar, and pair it with your favorite flavor of Jarritos while you’re there.

La Cantina’s BBQ Pork Tacos

Bring out your inner cowboy with this marinated shredded pork taco topped with a house-made Makers Mark bourbon BBQ sauce, cilantro lime slaw, and cornmeal-dusted fried jalapenos. Yeehaw!

La Palma’s Shrimp Street Tacos

Fresh seafood sets La Palma apart from the other tacquerias in town. Savor seasoned shrimp served with refreshing cucumber, tomatoes, and rice. La Palma will give you all the beachy vibes you need to start off your summer the right way.

El Taco Veloz’s Shredded Chicken Tacos

Tacobout a hole in the wall. El Taco Veloz is a must try. There’s limited outdoor seating, so you might want to grab these tacos to go. Served with traditional onions and lots of fresh cilantro, these tacos will fill a void in your soul you never even knew existed.

Taco Mama’s Ahi Tuna Tacos

Their guacamole alone could carry that restaurant if you ask us. AAA sushi-grade Ahi Tuna sliced and served raw, siracha slaw, fresh avocado with chipole ranch on the side… I mean come on. Delicious.
