Summertime

The locals love summertime in Auburn-Opelika because the “traffic” dies down, you can actually find a parking spot downtown, reservations are easier, and time just slows down a little. The bulk of the students are gone, but a lot of the local families are traveling as well. Whether it's your first summer here or your tenth we want you to soak up all that summer has to offer.

1. Farmers Markets - The freshest produce the land has to offer is right in your backyard. Along with rising temperatures you can expect a rise in local produce. The markets offer locally grown fruits and vegetables, herbs, locally produced jams and canned items, baked goods, soaps, honey, goat cheese, and more.

The Market at Ag Heritage Park is an open-air, growers-only farmers market that operates each Thursday, May-August, at Ag Heritage Park on the Auburn University campus.

The O Grows Farmers Market is open May through August on Tuesdays 3 to 6 p.m. It's located at 1103 Glenn Street, Opelika.

2. Hike to the waterfall at Chewacla - This beautiful waterfall is right in your backyard! Need we say more?

3. Outdoor Music - Summer Swing is a FREE outdoor concert hosted by Opelika Parks and Rec every Thursday night at 7 p.m., May - July, at Municipal Park on Denson Drive. This is a fun night for the whole family to enjoy. Bring a blanket and a picnic, and you've got the perfect date night! Check out the full schedule here.

4. SummerNight Downtown Art Walk - The SummerNight Downtown Art Walk is an arts festival that transforms downtown Auburn into its very own arts district, featuring the work of local and regional artists, live musicians, street performers, great food, and children's activities. Each year, the Auburn Arts Association, City of Auburn, Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center (JDCAC) and Auburn Downtown Merchants Association host this event to highlight the many talented artists in our community in addition to promoting our unique downtown area. The 2018 art walk is scheduled for June 8 from 6 - 10 p.m.  Find all the info here.

5. Ice Cream at O-Town - Summertime equals ice cream, right? O-Town Ice Cream is an adorable, classic, local ice cream shop in downtown Opelika. It's the perfect place to take the kids during the heat of the day or after dinner when you need a sweet treat! You're sure to love this place as much as we do!
