From antique malls to vintage murals, historic downtown Opelika is full of hidden gems and surprises.

Angel’s Antiques and Flea Market

Angel's Antiques & Flea Mall is located just one block off the interstate, encompassing 68,000 sq. ft. and over 450 vendors. The mall hosts thousands of customers from across the globe and was rated in the top 5 "Best Antique Malls in the South" by Lucky Magazine. Angel’s offers antiques, old street signs, paintings, furniture, and so much more.

Monkey Park

Municipal Park, located on Park Road in Opelika, has been affectionately known as “Monkey Park” to locals since the 1950s. This name originated from the park housing eight real spider monkeys.  The monkeys lived in cages at the park and were a popular attraction for visitors of all ages. Eventually, the monkeys were rehomed at the Montgomery Zoo, but their legacy is remembered in the form of wooden statues built in 2016. Monkey Park is located across the street from the Opelika Recreation center and includes the Rocky Brook Rocket Vintage Train, a gazebo, picnic tables, and playgrounds.

Murals

There are several murals painted by local and regional artists scattered throughout the Auburn-Opelika area. The Bless You wall exemplifies all things Southern.  The Butterfly Mural, originally created for Down Syndrome awareness month, is located next to the Yellow Umbrella, so you can check out two at once. In downtown Opelika, outside the Museum of East Alabama, the mural represents what is displayed inside the museum. Make sure to snap a selfie at each one and tag #auburnopelika when you spot them!
