Resting Pulse Brewery opens in downtown Opelika

Downtown Opelika has a new kid on the block! Resting Pulse Brewery opened it's door this month on 1st Avenue, so we sat down with owner Dave Plundo to get the scoop on the area's newest waterhole.

Tell us about Resting Pulse Brewery. What’s the vibe/atmosphere like?

Resting Pulse Brewing Company is an environment where you can come to find your “resting pulse” – to relax and spend time with friends and family while exploring new and exciting local craft beers. Our goal was to retain the rustic industrial design of the original building while providing for a relaxed atmosphere both inside the brewery and in our outdoor patio.

Where did the name come from?

Once we made the decision to follow our dream of opening a brewery in Opelika, we knew we wanted to give it a name that would represent our history in healthcare as well as our passion for craft beer and the environment that craft breweries offer their communities.

Tell us about your background. Where are you from?

We are originally from Pennsylvania but have lived in several different states over the years.  We have been in the Auburn-Opelika area for the past four years and fell in love with the area and the people.

Tell about a few of your beers.

Our best selling beer at this point is “Breathin’ Hazy”, which is a Hazy Northeast IPA, that has a signature hazy appearance, a citrusy aroma and taste. It gets its flavor from the addition of Citra hops. Our “Kick Back” Kolsch is a crisp and sparkling beer with slight fruity taste. It’s a great lighter beer perfect for a warm summer day. We also have a Honey Wheat beer we call “Bee Cool” Honey Wheat that is a mild and light-bodied beer, which gets its flavor from fresh honey and a mix a wheat grains and honey malts. You need to stop in to try these and the other beers we have on tap.

Any upcoming events we should know about?

We are a participating venue in the Opelika Songwriters Festival over the Memorial Day weekend. We will host multiple performers throughout the weekend including the event headliners Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. We are a part of Burgers Wars on June 1 and Opelika On Tap on July 27 in downtown Opelika, along with live music on weekends throughout the summer.

What else can patrons look forward to?

One of the great things about craft breweries is the continuing addition of new beers to the menu. This week we released two new beers, “Coffee Break Stout” which is a Mocha Coffee Stout using french pressed coffee from Mama Mocha’s Coffee Bodega located across the street from the brewery and “West Coast Vibes” a West Coast IPA.  We will have additional releases of unique and seasonal beers over the Summer and Fall as well.

Resting Pulse has a large indoor taproom and outdoor patio that are available to host your parties, gatherings and company meetings.  The venue features 11 TVs throughout the taproom individually controlled for watching your favorite sporting events and shows. Be sure to stop by during their regular hours and find your resting pulse!
