Time: 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM

Spend your lunch break enjoying a free concert by saxophonist Patrick McCurry and his jazz quartet on Friday, October 25! The show starts at 12 p.m. and is open to the public.

Patrick McCurry has worked as a supporting saxophonist and reed player since playing his first professional gig at age 17. Most of his collaborators have been hardworking local and regional groups, but he has appeared on stage with names like Rosemary Clooney, Margaret Whiting, composer Richard Kingsmore, saxophonist Rick Margitza and pianist John Oddo. Patrick studied jazz in New Orleans at Loyola University. While there, he worked and performed with visiting jazz greats Clark Terry, Phil Woods, Peter Erskine, John Fedchock, and Jiggs Wigham, as well as that city’s jazz masters Al Beletto, Tony Dagradi, Michael Pellera, and Johnny Vidacovich. He earned a Master’s degree in chamber music from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, where he studied with James Houlik, a pioneer in concert saxophone music.

Patrick and his family now live in Auburn, Alabama where he grew up. In 2018, he accepted a position teaching saxophone at Alabama State University in Montgomery. Since 2010, he has run a weekly free-concert series at the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art.
