Grab your running shoes (and your dog's leash) for the pet-friendly Shelby's Shuffle 5K and 1-mile fun run race on Sunday, November 17 at 2 p.m.! The race is hosted by the Auburn University Chapter of the Student American Veterinary Medical Association.

Proceeds from the race will benefit Shelby Safe Pet. This is a program started by the Shelby Humane Society that recognizes the strong human animal bond and how that bond can be manipulated in abusive relationships. They provide a way for domestic violence victims to seek assistance while remaining confident that their pet will receive free veterinary care and boarding until they can be reunited. Learn more here.

Paricipants in both the 5K and 1-mile option can enjoy a race t-shirt, goodie bag, food and drink vendors and much more! Awards will be given to the top three male and female 5K participants. Runners are also welcome (and encouraged) to run with their leashed dogs. However, the event is not open to intact male dogs, aggressive dogs, dogs that are not up to date on vaccinations or female dogs in heat.

The race will begin and end at Town Creek Park in Auburn. Parking for the park is limited, so participants are encouraged to utilize the Wrights Mill Road School parking lot. If available and weather permitting, additional parking will be located in the grassy field at the park. Participants are also encouraged to carpool in order to limit the number of cars at the race.

Registration is open now and is $20 for the 5K and $15 for the fun run until November 8. From November 9-16, the price will increase to $30 and $20, respectively. In order to guarantee a free t-shirt, participants must register by November 5th. After this date, extra T-shirts will be first come, first serve. Day-of registration will end at 1:30pm on November 17th and will cost $45.

Packet pickup will be on race day starting at 1 p.m. and will be open until 15 minutes prior to the start of the race.
