About The Masakowski Family

Born and steeped in the musical roux of New Orleans, the MAZ Family, consisting of Steve on guitar and his children Martin and Sasha, have been performing together professionally for nearly a decade. Influenced by their musician parents, Sasha and Martin have been playing jazz and also carving their own creative paths.

A New Orleans native, Steve has played with most of the city's greatest musicians as well as Grammy Award-winning artists. He is an acclaimed Blue Note Records artist, longtime member of the group Astral Project, and published educator. In 2022, he retired after 33 years from the position of Coca-Cola Endowed Chair of Jazz Studies at the University of New Orleans. (stevemasakowski.com).

Highly acclaimed by Vanity Fair, Downbeat, and many others, Sasha has headlined at venues including Blue Note (NYC), Cotton Club Tokyo, and the Detroit Jazz Festival. Based in Brooklyn with influences from jazz, electronic music, rock, and improvised music, she leads the bands Art Market and Tra$h Magnolia (sashamasakowski.com).

After studying music in New Orleans and Rotterdam, Martin toured with Eastern European folk band, the Balcony Players, exploring over 20 countries. He is currently back home as a working bassist in New Orleans, developing his skills as a graphic designer, photographer, and Tuvan throat singer (martinmasakowski.com).
