Road Trip Ready: Outdoor Adventure

Now is the time to get outdoors, find some peace, and experience a little beauty.

Who doesn't need a break right now? Pack up your play clothes and head to Auburn-Opelika for our Outdoor Adventure itinerary! Kids? Bring em. Dogs? Heck yeah, we love em. Auburn-Opelika is Road Trip Ready.

Day 1:

Check-in:  The Courtyard by Marriott Auburn is your home base. Adjacent to Chewacla State Park, minutes from Auburn’s beautiful campus, and a five-minute car ride to historic downtown Opelika, the Courtyard will provide you with affordable and spacious room to relax after your all-day adventures.

Grab some wheels: If you didn't bring your own, James Bro. Bikes will rent you wheels for the whole family. They'll fit the best bike to you and give you all the insider tips on the trails at Chewy, from beginner and kid-friendly to death-defying!

Explore: Head to Chewacla State Park and explore gorgeous waterfalls, hiking & biking trails, a 26-acre lake, and more. Chewy has over 696 scenic acres of space to ramble and restore your sense of well-being.

Relax and refuel: When the sun comes down on your adventure, take the quick ride over to historic downtown Opelika and feed your appetite with Italian, Mexican, family-friendly, or the perfect date spot. Outdoor dining is plentiful and keeps you in the action. Enjoy some craft brews at locally-owned Red Clay and Resting Pulse Breweries. Red Clay offers an extensive variety of beer and ciders; their cherry cider, Murder Creek, was just awarded the bronze medal in the Great American Cider competition. Resting Pulse Brewery features an outdoor patio and regular, seasonal rotations of new flavors.

Day 2:

Rev up: Bryon’s is a well-known barbecue restaurant in Auburn-Opelika and offers a southern-style breakfast that will gas up your engine and get you ready for another day of adventure. A local fave, Byron's breakfast menu has everything from eggs and bacon to biscuits and gravy, link sausage, and so much more.

Paddle your cares away: Off the Beaten Path is a kayak outfitter that will equip the whole fam for paddling excursions around the best river trails in East Alabama. They offer single and double kayaks, canoes, and tubes for whatever pace you choose: a leisurely float or challenging workout. Float through your day and dream about what you'll do the next time you're Road Trip Ready for AO!
