Time: 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM

Join Tessa Tallakson for her two day painting workshop focused on the classical technique based process of developing a still life oil painting from June 8-9 at Opelika Art Haus.

Day 1: The workshop will begin with a painting demonstration. The instructor will cover how to think about composing and starting a painting. She will teach the underpainting process she uses to help make a road map for starting a painting. She will also cover the materials and techniques she uses. After the demonstration, students will begin developing their own still life paintings. The instructor will be available to assist as needed. The instructor will offer individual critiques as the paintings progress.
Day 2: The workshop will start with another demonstration. The instructor will show how to develop a second layer on top of the roadmap. This will include incorporating color, thicker paint, developing edges, and brush strokes. She will demonstrate color mixing with a limited palette and give tips on how to get better at color mixing. She will also talk about the different materials and techniques she uses to bring interest to the painting’s surface. Students will continue to develop their still life paintings with help from the instructor. At the end of both days, the instructor will cover important information on safe and easy cleaning practices for oil paint.
Workshop goals:
