U.S. Olympic Training Site

Auburn University was designated an official U.S. Olympic Training Site by the United States Olympic Committee in the Spring of 2015. The School of Kinesiology, the Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum, and the Watson Field House are the training facilities designated in the site. The School of Kinesiology provides elite athlete training environments. Athletes from all over the country and world are invited to visit our facilities for scientific analysis and sport performance optimization provided by the School of Kinesiology faculty.

Auburn is home to the USA Team Handball Men’s and Women’s National Team Residency Programs. The athletes practice, train, and compete year-round at the training site. This brings competitors from Canada, Puerto Rico, Uruguay, and more to our community for world-class competitions and events. With this exposure, one of our initiatives is to continue to grow the youth sport of team handball in the region and nation. Many local elementary schools are integrating the sport into their physical education curriculum. As part of the Olympic Movement, our goal is to contribute to building a peaceful and better world by educating youth through sport without discrimination, which requires mutual understanding, a spirit of friendship, solidarity, and fair play.

Men's and Women's National Team

Since the summer of 2013, Auburn University has been home to the USA Team Handball Men’s and Women’s National Teams. Athletes from all over the country live, work, or go to school in Auburn to condition and practice year-round. We host a number of international matches at the Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum, bringing competition from Canada to Uruguay. The School of Kinesiology conducts a grassroots youth program to introduce children to the sport of team handball around the state and in the southeast region. These children will be the next generation of great handball players in the United States.
