The 1600 acre E. W. Shell Fisheries Center includes infrastructure and natural habitats for interdisciplinary research, education and outreach in the areas of aquaculture, fisheries management and aquatic sciences.

The facility includes a large, modern building housing research laboratories and aquatic mesocosms and an administration and education building that includes a fish market open to the community. The large multipurpose room is used by the university and community for seminars, workshops, training sessions and meetings.

In addition to constructed ponds used for experimental work, the Center provides habitat for wildlife, including Bald Eagles, wading birds, reptiles and amphibians. The Center is a member of the Organization of Biological Field Stations.
