2nd Annual Burger Battles

Eat burgers. Vote for your favorite. Repeat.

In honor of Burger Wars, Opelika's annual burger grilling contest coming up on June 4, we've expanded the burger competition! You can put your taste buds to the test and enjoy these competing burgers at their respective restaurants starting May 1 leading up to the big event. The 2nd annual Burger Battles is on!

HERE'S HOW IT WORKS:

  1. Dine in at one of the following participating restaurants in Auburn-Opelika and order their featured burger.
  2. Really savor it! Is it the BEST burger you've ever tried? Probably.
  3. Throughout the month of May, @AuburnOpelika will be posting about the competing burgers.
  4. You can vote by commenting on any of our Burger Battles social media posts with your favorite burger. 
  5. Want to earn more points for your favorite burger? Snap a selfie eating it, and tag us @AuburnOpelika

 

Introducing the Best Burgers in Auburn-Opelika:

 

The Smoked Gouda Cheeseburger
Zazu Gastropub

Last year's Burger Battles champion, Zazu Gastropub, is back this year to defend their title with their smoked gouda cheeseburger. The burger features smoked gouda with bacon, onion and jalapeño jam, lettuce, and tomato. 

Open Tuesday - Saturday from 11 a.m. - 10 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. 

 

The Half Pound Wood Fire Grilled American Wagyu Burger
The Depot

The Depot is hoping to add Burger Battles Champion to their extensive list of accolades with their Half Pound Wood Fire Grilled American Wagyu Burger. The burger is topped with fresh Ralf's bibb lettuce, local tomatoes, bacon mayo, and gouda.

Open for dinner Tuesday - Saturday from 5 - 9 p.m.

 

The Orange and Bleu Burger
Niffer's Place

Niffer's is enticing all Auburn fans this year with their Orange and Bleu Burger. This award-winning burger is a half-pound patty topped with bacon, blue cheese crumbles, crispy onions, and homemade chipotle sauce.

Open Sunday from 11 a.m. - 8 p.m., Monday & Tuesday from 11 a.m.- 8 p.m., Wednesday from 11 a.m.- 8:30 p.m., and Thursday - Saturday from 11 a.m.-9 p.m.

 

The Waverly Burger
The Waverly Local

The Waverly Local is making a grand entrance this year with their Waverly Burger. Their towering double-patty burger is topped with American cheese, herb mayo, lettuce, tomato, onion, and locally-made Wickles Dill Pickles. 

Open Wednesday - Saturday from 5-9 p.m. and Sunday Brunch from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

  

The Diner Burger
Bow & Arrow

Bow & Arrow is entering their Diner Burger again this year to seek redemption. The burger includes melty cheese, a special sauce, "shredduce," tomato, onions, and pickles all topped with a sesame bun. 

Open Tuesday - Saturday from 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. 

 

The Southern Oak Burger
Southern Oak Restaurant 

Whether you're feeling famished after a round of golf, wanting a beautiful view while dining, or just looking for a tasty burger, the Southern Oak Restaurant, inside the Marriott at Grand National, is entering their Southern Oak Burger. Their fresh 100% certified Angus beef patty is topped with crispy bacon, house-made pimento cheese, tobacco onions, lettuce, tomato, and onion all between a freshly baked brioche bun. 

Open for Breakfast daily from 6:30 p.m. - 11 a.m. and dinner from 5 -9 p.m.  

 

The Ariccia Burger
Ariccia Cucina Italiana 

Located inside the Hotel at Auburn University, Ariccia Cucina Italiana is entering their Ariccia Burger. The burger is piled high with Calabrian chili aioli, fontina cheese, their famous smoked porchetta, lettuce, tomato, and onion. This exclusive burger is only available during their daily brunch hours.

Open for Brunch daily from 6:30 a.m.-2 p.m. and dinner from 5:30 -10 p.m.  

 

Texas Cowboy Burger
Acre

Iron Chef Showdown winner, Chef David Bancroft, is ready to battle it out this year with Acre's Texas Cowboy Burger. Paying homage to Chef Bancroft's Texas roots, the burger features a jalepeño aioli with crispy onion ring strings, crispy Acre bacon, and pepper jack cheese on a brioche bun.

Open Monday - Tuesday from 5-9 p.m., Wednesday-Thursday from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. & 5 - 9 p.m., Friday - Saturday from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. & 5 -10 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

 

The Famous Pounder
Cheeburger Cheeburger

Cheeburger Cheeburger is bringing in the big guns for this year's competition with their famous pounder burger. You'll need to bring your appetite for this burger. The burger has, not one, but TWO half-pound patties topped with four slices of American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, mayo, ketchup, and mustard all on a brioche bun.

Open daily from 11 a.m. - 9 p.m.

  

The Smash Burger
The Hound

The Hound, famous for their bacon and bourbon selections, is featuring their Smash Burger for this year's Burger Battles! The burger is all-natural ground beef topped with griddled onions, American cheese, their famous house bacon, pickles, and comeback sauce, all inside a fresh kaiser roll. 

Open Tuesday-Friday for lunch from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. & dinner from 5-9 p.m., Saturday brunch from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. & dinner from 5-9 p.m., and Sunday brunch from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. & dinner fro 5 - 8 p.m.

 

The Warburger
Auburn Plaza Bar & Lounge

The Plaza is putting their famous Warburger to the test for this year's competition. Their 3-ounce chuck beef patty is topped with sweet onions, Wickles Dirty Dill pickles, French's mustard, and house bbq sauce. While the burger is always on their menu, you can get it for only $3 on Wednesday nights!

Open Tuesday at 5 p.m. and Wednesday - Sunday at 11 a.m.

 

The Amsterdam Burger
Amsterdam Café

Amsterdam Café is counting on their farm-to-table philosophy and Amsterdam Burger to set them apart from their competition. The burger is topped with cheddar cheese, applewood bacon, caramelized onions, bibb lettuce, tomato, spicy pickles, and Amsterdam's signature burger sauce all piled between a traditional burger bun.

Open Monday - Saturday 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. and Sunday, brunch from 10:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. and dinner from 4 p.m. - 9 p.m.
