Auburn-Opelika Tourism isn’t just a non-profit; we’re a team of passionate professionals dedicated to making every visitor’s experience unforgettable. Each semester, our communications & marketing team welcome 2-3 driven interns ready to dive into public relations, marketing, and communications. Requirements/Skills:
Interns must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and have a strong understanding of public relations writing and media relations. Professional interaction with community partners and guests is essential, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office. While Adobe Creative Suite knowledge is encouraged, it is not required. Interns should be able to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work 15-40 hours per week, including occasional nights and weekends. A positive attitude and the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment are key to success in this role.
Responsibilities:
As an intern, your duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Drafting public relations materials such as news releases, media alerts, fact sheets, and creative content.
- Attending partner meetings, event planning sessions, presentations, and brainstorming discussions.
- Updating and managing databases for partners, events, and media contacts (includes data entry and corrections).
- Assisting with the physical distribution of visitor materials (ability to lift 35 lbs required).
- Managing electronic media, performing research, and providing analytics support.
- Supporting staff on partner and business development projects.
- And, of course, being awesome!

marketing & communications Anna Carlisle Worrell
Anna Carlisle is from Birmingham, AL and is serving as a marketing and communications intern. AC holds a leadership position on her sorority's executive board and is actively involved in Women in Business, the Auburn chapter of the American Marketing Association, and As You Are Ministries. AC will graduate from Auburn University in May 2025.
PR & Communications Shelby McDonald
Shelby is originally from Raleigh, NC and is serving as a public relations and communications intern. In addition to being a full-time student and fantastic intern, Shelby is involved in her sorority and with the Onward Campus Ministry. Shelby will graduate from Auburn University in May 2025.
PR & Communications Mary Morgan Sholter
Originally from Charlotte, NC, Mary Morgan always loved watching the Auburn Tigers every football season. She graduated from Auburn University with a degree in public relations in 2024 and now serves as a senior communications intern for AOT. Mary Morgan loves reading, country music, and being with her friends and family.
