AUBURN-OPELIKA, Ala. — Gamers, competitors, creators and families are invited to the first NCA Expo on Saturday, Oct. 10, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Opelika Public Library. Hosted by New Challenger Approaching, the free community event will feature esports tournaments, a cosplay contest, independent game developers, vendors, gaming-focused panels and more.
New Challenger Approaching is an Auburn-based nonprofit dedicated to serving as a bridge for young and upcoming talent in esports. The NCA Expo expands that mission by bringing different sides of gaming culture together while introducing the community to opportunities within esports and game development.
“We are incredibly excited to host the NCA Expo at the Opelika Public Library this October,” said Jeffrey Davis, NCA co-founder. “As one of the only esports competitions held in East Alabama each year, this event brings a unique and growing audience to our community. We are proud to continue hosting the expo in Auburn-Opelika and look forward to helping it grow into a premier event for the esports community across East Alabama and the surrounding region.”
Gaming tournaments will feature fighting, racing and multiplayer events, with $1,000 in sponsored gift card prizes up for grabs. Players interested in competing can register in advance through the NCA Expo website.
Creativity will also take center stage during the Expo’s cosplay competition, where participants can compete for a $200 prize. The competition will also feature a mascot challenge with an additional $50 prize.
The Indie Game Showcase will give attendees the opportunity to meet independent developers and experience original games from emerging studios, including Lumani Studios, Dying Sun Games and Dead Tag Studios. Throughout the day, the Expo will also feature vendors offering art, collectibles, games and other items.
Main-stage programming will include panels, community conversations and interactive gaming challenges, including Relay Replay. Additional schedules and event information will be available through New Challenger Approaching as the event approaches.
Admission to the NCA Expo is free. Attendees of all experience levels are encouraged to visit the Opelika Public Library on Oct. 10 to compete, explore the local gaming community or simply experience the growing world of esports.
